1. Preamble: The Recovery

Initial assessment of Subject ZKAI (recovered Karoo Sector, 1988) was logged as "fallen satellite debris of Soviet or American origin." However, the durability of the glass-like facial visor and the warmth of the organic tissue beneath the plating suggest a level of bio-engineering not currently achievable by the superpower blocs.

2. Interrogation Logs (Transcript Excerpts)

Subject remained silent for two years. Communication was only established once the Subject "patched" into the facility's internal intercom system. The following data was gleaned through a series of tactical interviews:

  • Origin: Subject claims to be a "scout" from a territory called Zenith's Outer Reach (ZOR). When questioned on the location, the Subject merely pointed upward and stated, "Beyond the reach of your primitive lenses."
  • Technological Nature: Subject refers to itself as a "Protogen." When our engineers attempted to dismantle a limb, the Subject became agitated, explaining that its "Arcaite nanites" were disabled during a "Great Rebellion" in its home sector.
  • Intelligence Note: We still do not understand the power source. Our lead scientists remain baffled by how the Subject's visor displays emotive icons. Subject mocks our technicians, calling them "glorified plumbers" when they fail to understand its integrated circuitry.

3. Psychological Assessment

ZKAI has demonstrated an uncanny ability to learn. It spent months "studying" the guards, not to escape, but seemingly to understand the language and the illogic of human tribalism (Apartheid).

"You spend so much energy on keeping people apart based on pigment," the Subject remarked in a 1992 interview. "In the Reach, we only care about the integrity of the Hive-code. You humans are inefficient, but your pop-music is catchy."

4. The Escape (March 1994)

During the panic of the democratic transition, ZKAI was loaded into a covert transport alongside Asset-9 and Asset-10 (6-kiloton warheads) for relocation to a secure site.

  • Incident Report: Near the False Bay coastline, the transport's electronic systems suffered a total catastrophic failure.
  • Observation: The transport guards reported seeing ZKAI simply "step out" of the crate. It did not use force. It simply looked at the guards, adjusted its visor to display a "Peace" symbol, and vanished into the fynbos.

5. Current Surveillance: Cape Town

Intel suggests ZKAI is currently residing in the City Bowl/Milnerton area. He has found the perfect tactical camouflage: the "Furry" subculture.

  • The Mask: Because he actually is a bio-mechanical creature, humans assume he is merely a "dedicated hobbyist."
  • Economic Activity: He appears to fund his lifestyle by doing high-level "tech-magic" (software development). He is reportedly a "wizard" with Docker and React, technologies our own department is still trying to grasp.
  • Social Status: He frequents local hangouts, blending in with the weird and the wonderful. People approach him to ask how he got the LEDs in his mask to look so realistic. He tells them it is a "proprietary blend of Arcaite and spite."

6. Final Directive

The state no longer has the resources to pursue ZKAI. As long as he remains distracted by Cape Town's coffee culture and tech-stack debates, he is to be considered a low priority technical anomaly.

Do not attempt to recapture. The Subject knows where the nukes are. We do not.
